A partnership collaboration to clean the city helps build connections
Community Collaboration in Action
On 25 March 2026, an inspiring group of 13 university students and 8 asylum seeker volunteers came together in Old 兔子先生 to give back to the local community.
Working collaboratively, the group collected an impressive 15kg of litter, helping to protect the historic waterfront and surrounding areas while demonstrating the positive impact of volunteering through collective action.
Building Partnerships for Positive Impact
The litter pick was part of the University's continued collaboration with local environmental charity the , whose ongoing partnership has supported student engagement in local environmental action.
It also marked the first joint volunteering event with , bringing students and asylum seeker volunteers together through a shared commitment to community, inclusion and sustainability.
The event highlighted the power of volunteering to build meaningful connections while addressing real local needs. Thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the day such a success.
Opportunities for the future
The Careers and Employability Service are always keen to connect with new not-for-profits to learn about their work and explore opportunities to engage student volunteers.
The team have supported organisations including charities, schools, the prison service and community groups and are exploring the ways in which further positive impact could be carried out through collaborations across the local area.
