Matchtech-funded bursaries recognise the talent and potential of future engineers at 兔子先生

Two engineering students at the 兔子先生 have been awarded Materna Fund Bursaries to support their studies.  

Undergraduate students Taishen Titley and Xiomara Richardson are both studying for the BEng (Hons) engineering and technology with foundation year programme. They鈥檝e each received 拢2,500, funded by leading STEM recruitment specialist . 

 honours George Materna, founder of Matchtech, whose vision was to support the next generation of engineers and innovators. Involved in selecting this year鈥檚 scholars, George shared that the fund is more than financial support - it鈥檚 a commitment to students鈥 success and their potential to make a real impact in the field of engineering and technology.

One of this year鈥檚 scholars, Taishen, said: 鈥淭he bursary has been a huge help, easing financial pressure and allowing me to focus more fully on my course and buy the equipment I need. I鈥檓 very grateful to Matchtech. Their support has made a real difference and is helping me progress towards a future specialising in electrical power engineering.鈥 

The initiative is designed to help bridge the gap between education and industry, enabling students to focus on developing the technical skills needed for future careers in engineering and technology. 

The bursary has been a huge help, easing financial pressure and allowing me to focus more fully on my course and buy the equipment I need. I鈥檓 very grateful to Matchtech.

Course leader Anton Hettiarachchige Don, from the University鈥檚 School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, said: "For most students, this programme offers a second chance to pursue their dream of becoming engineers. The extra financial support provided by the Materna Fund can make all the difference, allowing them to concentrate on their academic journey and seize this valuable opportunity." 

Claire Cross, Chief People Officer for Matchtech, said: 鈥淢atchtech remains dedicated to helping students move successfully from education into careers in engineering and technology, particularly at a time when these specialist skills are in short supply worldwide. We鈥檙e delighted that the Materna Fund will play a meaningful role in supporting these students, and I wish them every success.鈥
